When it comes to training, remember, these are stubborn dogs. They will do what they want and when they feel like it. It is very important to make them learn from the start, that you are the alpha dog of the family. They have to follow you and not the other way round. However, dog training is a bit difficult when it comes to the Pomeranian.
They are very bossy and manipulative and are not easy to train. You will have to be very gentle yet firm with your orders and train them consistently. They have a way to charm their dog trainer and get their way. However, no matter what, do not let your heart melt and be firm with your training process.
You can use dog treats like a carrot and stick to motivate your Pomeranian to follow your orders. Do not go on with your training sessions for long. Keep them short and sweet. Remember, it is you who decide when the training sessions start and when they end.
These dogs are not meant for families with very small children. This is because they do not have the patience and will power like a German Shepherd when it comes to poking and pulling. The dog is on the possessive side and they will snap at an infant if they try to take away the dog toys. It is very important to teach children to respect the dog and his boundaries to avoid any kind of retaliation.
