The Pomsky is a hybrid of the Husky and the Pomeranian. This breed is sometimes also called the Huskarian.

These dogs have the look and appearance of a miniature Husky, and are as cute as a button. But do not be fooled by their 'furry' appeal. Raising a Pomsky can be a colossal task, especially if you don't know what you are getting into.

They got a handsome Pomeranian male to court a beautiful, blue-eyed female Husky, and 65 days later, an adorable ball of fur called the Pomsky rolled out into the world.

The Pomsky, most of the time, inherits the best of both its lineages. But being a hybrid means that there is no rule of thumb. While you can hope that it looks like a Husky and grows like a Pomeranian, there are certainly no guarantees.

The ideal Pomsky is a miniature Husky. Dog breeders are constantly trying to make this happen, and luckily, more often than not, it does.

The adult Pomsky weighs in at about 17 - 30 pounds, and grows to be anywhere from 10 - 15 inches in height.

Both its parents are descendants of Arctic breeds, and as such, the Pomsky has a rich, silky double coat of fur, that will have you cuddling it all day long. The coat is generally a mixture of white, gray, brown, and black.

One of the most beautiful characteristics that most Pomskies inherit are the rich blue eyes of the Husky.

It's an almost electric shade, one that reminds you of the great frozen seas of Alaska! An upward curling tail, raised Pomeranian-like ears, and a short snout with a small button-like wet nose on top, complete its look, making it better than the best stuffed toy you ever had.

However, most Pomskies tend to bring in the best of both sides, making them highly intelligent, faithful, loving, and strong-willed. They are also very active and playful, something which both parents have in common.

They are very protective of their family (which includes the owners as well). While the Husky rarely barks, the Pomeranian, owing to its overly-protective nature, is known to create a racket most of the time. In the heat of battle, they tend to forget their size and are known to take on much larger opponents.

Both these traits of the Pomeranian are often found in Pomskies, which can be both loud as well as aggressive. They are also not very patient with children, and are better kept at a distance.

But for the most part, the Pomsky will easily get along with people, and even other dogs if given the time and training to adjust.

If you tire easily, then it's best that you admire the Pomsky breed from afar. Possessed of a seemingly infinite amount of energy, Pomskies can wear out even the best of us. The Husky is a work-dog, and the Pomeranian too is always running around.

Thus, it's no big wonder that their offspring needs a lot of exercise, failing which, their destructive tendencies begin cropping up. Pomskies love to run and jump, and so it becomes the responsibility of their owners to make sure that they get the opportunity to do this often enough.

Also, with their double coat comes the need for double the grooming effort. It is a high shedding dog breed that needs regular cleaning and brushing to remove dead hair and fur.

Mix breeds are inherently strong, and though these little fur balls don't look like much, they are actually pretty rough and tough. They are often more resistant and even immune to the genetic diseases and common health problems of their parents.

The only chink in their armor, perhaps, is the development of dental issues, such as plaque build-up and subsequent loss of teeth. Hence, it is important that regular teeth cleaning be carried out to maintain their oral health. Apart from this, shedding could sometimes be an issue, but regular brushing will solve that problem.

Thus, with proper care, raising a Pomsky won't require you to make any more trips to the veterinarian's clinic than raising any other dog breed would.

The Pomsky has an average lifespan of 14 years, if proper care and nurturing is provided.
