Guinea Pig Names

Arjun Kulkarni
Guinea pigs, without a doubt, are the cutest pets in the world. So, it goes without saying that the name you choose for your pet guinea pig should also be cute.
A guinea pig is a very cute animal. It is also very low on maintenance animal and thus, anyone would love to have it as a pet. The irony about guinea pigs is that they are neither a species of pig, nor are they from Guinea. It is said that they actually originated from the Andes and are part of the Cavia genus, classified as rodents.
So basically, a guinea pig is quite an inappropriate name. Why don't you give your guinea pig a name that defines it well?
Your pet's name should be just like the animal; in this case, cute and small. Guinea pigs are very innocuous-looking animals and hence, their names should also do justice. Otherwise you might end up calling them a very unsuitable name, like a guinea pig!
The simplest way of naming a guinea pig (or any pet for that matter) is to see what it looks like and what it reminds you of. Looking at the animal's features will give you some clue about some pet names. Is it hairy? What color is it? Is it shy or very naughty? Is it very energetic or is it a bit on the lazier side?
Ask yourself this question and write down names you think suit your pet guinea pig's looks. You can also look for names based on your favorite celebrity, sportsman, or fictional character. Superman might be a cute name, but names like 'saber-tooth' might just be a tad weird for a guinea pig. Here are a few names that should help get you started.
