Girija Shinde
Are you a dog lover, who can't have a dog as a pet because some family member is allergic to canines? Well, now you need not worry, as this story will provide information on some of the best dogs for people with allergies. You can bring any of the following breeds home without worrying about allergies.
Having a dog at home, not to guard the house, but simply to experience that pleasant, happy feeling that one gets when the little pup jumps on you when you reach home, is almost everybody's wish! However, not everyone turns out to be so lucky. Some people, for instance, cannot keep dogs as pets, as some family member is allergic to pet pollen.
Pet pollen is nothing but dog protein, which is present all over the dog. Though it is produced by all the breeds, the amount produced differs. Some dog breeds, like the ones that have less hair, small or medium-sized dogs that do not shed, single coat dogs, etc., produce less pet pollen. Therefore, they are relatively safer than other breeds.

Top Dog Breeds for People With Allergies

Maltese

Maltese dogs are cute white dogs, which look very much like old women! They always have this neutral, know-all kind of look in their eyes. They grow about 3 - 7 lb. Though they have a long, flowing coat, they do not have an undercoat which is why they shed very little.
Maltese also produce very small amount of pet pollen or dander, which is why they are safe for people with dog allergies. Talking about their temperament, Maltese are active and playful, and yet perfect for apartment life.

Poodles

The poodle is the best choice for people with asthma. Unlike other dog breeds, poodles do not have fur; instead, they have hair. And like Maltese, poodles shed very less. This dog breed is available in three sizes: toy, miniature, and standard. Poodles are hungry for human companionship, so they easily get along with kids.
At the same time, they are excellent hunting dogs! As they are quite intelligent and memorize commands easily, they can be trained in a short span of time. All sizes of poodles need to be groomed every 6 - 8 weeks.

Bichon Frise

You must be familiar with this adorable dog, but did you know that it is one of the top five hypoallergenic dog breeds in the world? Like other hypoallergenic dogs, Bichon Frises also shed very little. They are quite small in size, measuring about 7 - 12 lb, and thus, are popularly known as lap dogs! They look extremely cute, almost like toy dogs!
They love to be in the company of kids and also tolerate the company of other pets, thus making them one of the best family dogs. Having said that, one thing to be kept in mind is that you will have to take it to the dog grooming center once in a while to maintain its look!

Schnauzer

Schnauzers come in three different sizes: miniature, standard, or giant. These dogs always have an alert look on their face, which makes sense because they are very good guard dogs. While they do not require much exercise, they are always ready for a walk in the park.
You will find these dogs mostly in black and white combination, but complete black Schnauzers also exist. They do not produce a lot of pet pollen, which is why they are considered apt for people with dog allergy issues. You will have to groom it regularly though, especially brush and clip its coat to keep it clean and tangle free.
Some other dog breeds which are suitable for people with allergies include Kerry Blue Terrier, Portuguese Water Dog, Chinese Crested, Lhasa Apso, etc.
